Local council one chairpersons in Rukungiri district yesterday received bicycles which were procured by the ministry of local government to facilitate the monitoring of government programs in their areas of jurisdiction.
Rukungiri district received a total of 575 bicycles but the district has 837 villages.
While handing over these bicycles to village chairpersons at the district headquarters, The Rukungiri Resident district commissioner Stephen Nsubuga Bewayo said that lc 1 chairpersons are the government’s foot soldiers and rallied them to use the bicycles to mobilise residents for government programs in education, health and immunization among others.
The Rukungiri district chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama told the village chairpersons to keep their bicycles as they might become a target by thieves and cautioned them against selling them because they are government property.
On behalf of Village chairpersons , Fred Tiyanga and Richard Katamba village chairpersons from Kebisoni town council appreciated the government for supporting them with a means of transport but appealed for different means of transport because bicycles can’t help them to traverse the terrain in their areas
