The Rukungiri District Health Educator, Alban Natukunda, has urged residents to take proactive measures in the fight against malaria by consistently using mosquito nets, ensuring their homes are free from bushes and stagnant water, and adopting preventive practices to curb the spread of the disease.

Speaking in an interview with our reporter, Alban highlighted the rising malaria cases in the district, which have increased from 100 to 200. He emphasized that while the district is making progress in providing treatment, the focus should now shift towards prevention by empowering residents to adopt behaviors that reduce mosquito breeding and malaria transmission.

He noted that in areas of Uganda where malaria has been eliminated, mosquitoes still exist. Therefore, he advised residents to use Indoor Residual Spraying, sleep under treated mosquito nets, ensure expectant mothers receive preventive treatment, and seek proper case management through malaria testing and timely treatment.

Alban further called on residents to embrace the district’s malaria prevention initiatives, urging them to support innovation, implementation, and investment in sustainable malaria control measures.
