Headteachers from government-aided and private primary schools in Rukungiri yesterday held a one-day workshop at Makobore high school to discuss issues concerning national assessment which will take place between November and December 2023.
Dipol Mbonigaaba a consultant from the Ministry of Education who chaired the meeting, explained the purpose of the meeting saying that it is to prepare all head teachers for the national assessment activity which is carried out by the Prime minister’s office every financial year.
He outlined several requirements needed by the Prime minister’s office during the assessment where he said that schools must have their assets registered, functional management committees, and school improvement plans, among others as this will help the ministry plan for the schools accordingly.
Addressing the meeting, the Rukungiri district education officer Mr.Turyahumura Jackson requested all head teachers to always monitor and supervise their teachers so that they can deliver as per government requirements. He denounced corporal punishments in schools.
He commended the government for giving phones to schools under Tela System to help them monitor learners’ and teachers’ attendance in school as a way of discouraging absenteeism. He urges school head teachers to make use of them and protect them carefully.
