The Chairperson of the Rukungiri District Headteachers Association, Habert Musasizi, has voiced apprehension regarding the decision made by the District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to suspend the testing examinations administered to primary pupils across the district, which were funded through contributions from parents.
Musasizi commented on the letter sent by the CAO to the Association on February 13th, 2024, instructing them to cease all payments for assessment exams procured from commercial bureaus.
In an interview with our reporter this morning, Musasizi expressed concern that this action could negatively impact the performance of primary school pupils in their leaving exams, as these tests are crucial for assessing pupils’ focus and progress.
He conveyed frustration that these examinations have been a fixture since the 1990s and questioned why the CAO was choosing to dismantle an initiative initiated by parents to improve educational standards since that time.
According to Musasizi, it seems as though the CAO may be suggesting they revert to using blackboards for testing, which he believes is inadequate and outdated.
He called upon the relevant authorities to reconsider this decision, as it could have detrimental effects on the entire district’s education system.
