Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) of Rukungiri, has warned residents of Rukungiri Municipality to refrain from sabotaging the contractor responsible for garbage collection to avoid legal repercussions.

He made this warning on Friday, October 4, 2024, during a meeting with Mr. Isaac Katureebe, the Director of Home Klin Uganda Limited, and his team, which took place at the Rukungiri Municipal Council hall.

Home Klin Uganda Limited specializes in garbage collection and operates in Mbarara, Iganga, Mityana, Entebbe, Mubende, and the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). They enroll service recipients in an electronic system and issue electronic receipts for a fixed fee over the negotiated period.

Today, Rukungiri Municipal Council conducted a drive across the town to inform residents about the new garbage collection system managed by the contractor. This initiative is an executive order mandated by the President; however, the drive faced resistance from the residents at its inception.

Ahimbisibwe emphasized that the policy was ordered by the President, stating that security agencies are involved and that no one should sabotage the initiative in their presence. He urged the implementers to ignore any diversionary tactics and advised contractors to avoid exercising excessive power.

His Worship Charles Makuru, the Mayor of Rukungiri Municipal Council, expressed relief at the alleviation of the burdensome garbage collection task. He urged the implementers to remain vigilant to avoid dismissal for failing to execute government directives and expressed gratitude for the funds saved from garbage collection, which will be allocated for street lights.

Lion MJF Tagobya Prosper, the Deputy Town Clerk of Rukungiri Municipal Council, welcomed the contractor and expressed gratitude for the revival of garbage collection, which had become a burden due to machinery breakdowns. He encouraged cooperation among residents by reporting challenges for prompt resolution.

Mr. Isaac Katureebe, the Director of Home Klin Uganda Limited, urged the Municipal Council authorities to enhance sensitization efforts for the adoption of the new system and to enforce compliance where necessary, assuring residents of quality service.

Health Inspectors Asiimwe Evas and Shallon Kiconco called on the public to embrace garbage collection guidelines to ensure cleanliness and development within their town.
