The Independent Electoral Commission has authorized the Promoters of the People’s Front for Freedom to begin collecting signatures for party registration.
In a letter dated October 2, 2024, the Commission’s Secretary, Mulekyah R. Leonard, indicated that the signature collection process is expected to conclude by January 3, 2025. He requested that District Authorities assist the Promoters in this effort.
Julius Muchunguzi, the spokesperson for the Independent Electoral Commission, confirmed this development, stating that the Commission has advised the Promoters to proceed with submitting a complete application for political party registration.
Muchunguzi explained that the Promoters must provide two copies of the party’s constitution, duly signed by authorized officers. They are also required to submit a list of at least 50 members from two-thirds of Uganda’s districts, ensuring that these members are ordinarily residents or registered voters in their respective districts.
Additionally, he mentioned that the Promoters must present a complete description of the party’s identifying symbols, slogans, and colors, if applicable, and pay a registration fee of UGX 250,000 (two hundred fifty thousand Ugandan shillings).
