The election of Rev Onesimus Asiimwe as the sixth bishop of North Kigezi diocese has been well received in Rukungiri district, with stakeholders congratulating him upon his call to serve.
Rev Asiimwe will replace the late bishop Benon Magezi who passed on in May 2021.
Rev Erick Beingana Mugyezi the dean Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano says the bishop-elect is an evangelist who has vastly preached the word of God and who they think will transform the diocese by cooperating with all north kigezi communities without bias .
Rev Enock Karamuzi, the North Kigezi diocesan secretary says they have already embarked on preparations for the installation and enthronement of the new bishop and a committee meeting will be held to prepare for the function which is slated for the 12th march 2023.
Abel Turyabe Matiita the North Kigezi diocesan head of laity congratulated the new bishop and urged Christians to be involved in all preparations to welcome him because they are ready to work with him towards the development of the diocese.
Rauben Amanyire japan the head of laity at All saints church Rukungiri says they will cooperate with the new bishop for the development of the diocese especially in completing some projects like the construction of the cathedral.
Hon Roland Mugume Kaginda the former Rukungiri municipality legislator said he was at first skeptical about bishop-elect Asiimwe but he has since seen the light and changed his mind adding that he will be among the key Christians who will welcome the new bishop and work with him to develop north kigezi diocese, the land of revival.
He pledged to contribute all the fuel needed to transport the new bishop from Kampala to Rukungiri and called upon all Christians who were like him to join him and welcome the new bishop.
