Christians in Rukungiri have been urged to rely solely on Almighty God to overcome life challenges instead of worshipping small gods or visiting witchcraft agents. Ordinand William Birungi made this call during a church Sunday service at All Saints Church in Rukungiri Municipality.
In his sermon, Ordinand Birungi emphasized the importance of unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, the ultimate solver of all challenges. He criticized the practice of mixing Christian beliefs with other gods, such as seeking guidance from witch doctors (“abafumu”), which he said has perpetuated daily life challenges and contributed to high levels of poverty.
He also pointed out that some Christians engage in superstitious and ungodly practices, such as performing rituals before burying their loved ones or during memorial services. He condemned these acts as serving the devil, which contradicts the holy Christian life.
Ordinand Birungi further reminded the congregation that God is the most powerful weapon against all life’s difficulties. He encouraged Christians to fully trust and believe in God, who provides for all needs and promises eternal life to those who follow Him. He strongly warned against visiting witchcraft agents, urging believers to cast all their burdens onto God.
Rev. Dickson Kakanyisa, the Archdeacon of Rujumbura Archdeaconary, echoed these sentiments during his remarks. He challenged Christians to genuinely accept Christ into their hearts and rely on Him as their ultimate source of strength to overcome problems through prayer and repentance.
Rev. Kakanyisa condemned the practice of undermining God’s power by turning to small gods, stating this was the reason many challenges remain unresolved. He stressed that God cannot work in the hearts of those who do not fully trust Him.
Rev. Kakanyisa concluded by urging Christians to cleanse their hearts and abandon small gods as they prepare to enter the new year, 2025. He emphasized that true success, peace, and happiness can only be achieved through devotion to Almighty God, who grants victory in life’s battles.
