Police in Sheema District have arrested a 23-year-old man on allegations of murdering his 67-year-old relative.

The incident occurred during the night of December 29, 2024, at an unspecified time in Mutanoga Cell, Kigarama Sub-County, Sheema District.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Edson Atambiraboona, alias Sony, 23, a resident of the aforementioned address. Tumusiime also identified the deceased as Perez Nshemerirwe, 67, a peasant and resident of Mutanoga Cell, Kigarama Sub-County.

Reports indicate that the suspect and the deceased, who were relatives, were involved in a fight on December 28, 2024, at Nshemerirwe’s bar. Locals intervened and separated them. However, Atambiraboona allegedly threatened to kill Nshemerirwe before the end of the year.

On December 29, 2024, Nshemerirwe was found gruesomely murdered in his house. According to Ephraim Mugarura, 64, a builder from Kabusye Cell, Kabusye Ward, Masheruka Town Council in Sheema District, the body was discovered lying on its back on the bed with a piece of cloth tied around the waist. Mugarura reported the matter to the police.

Tumusiime revealed that the body had multiple bruises on the arms and legs. It was taken to Kabwohe Health Center IV for a postmortem examination. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
