The Christians of Rukondo Church in Uganda’s Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, have voiced their concern about a sizable cliff left near their church during the construction of the Rukungiri-Kanungu tarmac road. This cliff poses a serious risk to the lives of both children and parishioners.

During a meeting with the Rukungiri Municipality legislator, Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, who also chairs the Rukungiri District Roads Committee, church leaders raised this issue. Dr. Rutahigwa, fulfilling a promise, handed over 50 bags of cement for the construction of their new church.

Rev. Henry Musinguzi, the parish priest of Rukondo Church, emphasized that the cliff not only endangers the lives of Christians but also threatens the safety of Rukondo Primary School students. He urged Dr. Rutahigwa to liaise with UNRA (Uganda National Roads Authority) to secure a chain-link fence for the edge of the cliff.

Jackson Muhoozi, the head of the church’s laity, and Moses Byaruhanga, speaking on behalf of the congregation, stressed the urgent need for a chain-link fence and better access roads for both churchgoers and students.

They expressed gratitude to Dr. Rutahigwa for his donation of 50 bags of cement, which will aid in the ongoing construction of the church, a project requiring significant resources.

Dr. Rutahigwa, while handing over the cement, assured them that, in his capacity as chairperson of the Rukungiri District Roads Committee, he would address the issue with the relevant authorities to prevent any potential harm. He called upon residents of the Eastern Division to collaborate for the overall development of Rukungiri Municipality.
