Muslim leaders at Rujumbura Twale, located at Ruruku Mosque in Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, have urged political leaders to extend equitable support to Islamic-based development projects just as they do with churches, schools, and health centers.

The call was made on Monday during the handover of 50 bags of cement by Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahirwa. The donation follows a pledge he made during a fundraising event held on 11th April 2025 to support the expansion of the mosque and completion of its office block.

Although the Muslim leaders, including Matovu Akim, the Twale chairperson, Sheikh Badul Byabagambi, and Babiiha Hamudani of Marumba Mosque, expressed gratitude to Hon. Rutahirwa, they noted that Muslim communities often receive less attention when it comes to development support.

They appealed to more political leaders and well-wishers to consider Muslims in future community development projects and fundraising efforts, pointing out that mosques are equally important social and spiritual centers that deserve attention.

The leaders commended Hon. Rutahirwa for fulfilling his pledge but stressed that long-term progress would require consistent and widespread backing from both Muslim and non-Muslim politicians. They also rallied local Muslims to stay united and support leaders who prioritize development over politics.
