Local leaders and residents in Rubimbwa Parish, Kilima Sub County, have raised concerns over the area’s water scarcity and vow to panic due to the outbreak of waterborne diseases.
According to Bruno Ahimbisibwe, the Rubimbwa Parish area councillor, who spoke with Boona Radio, he raised the concern of water scarcity in the area. This has left some residents from distant places, such as Nyakabungo Cell, helpless, with the option of running to rivers, ponds, and swamps to access water for domestic use, no matter how dirty.
However, Councillor Bruno also raised other concerns, such as electricity scarcity and the poor state of roads, while thanking the Kinkiizi East MP, who is also the Minister of ICT, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, for supporting communal roads.
The Kitunga LC1 Chairperson, Mr. Kwesiga Abel, also spoke about the challenges, saying that they consume contaminated water together with animals, which has already resulted in the outbreak of waterborne diseases among residents. He added that about 150 homes in the village rely on only one spring, which forces young children and elderly people to move very late at night seeking water.
However, Mr. Kwesiga expressed hope towards the area MP, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, who pledged to provide them with water before the NRM Primary Elections.
The Ruheza Cell LC1 Chairperson, Magezi Benson, also expressed concern about the water scarcity challenge in the area and confirmed that their main sources of water are rivers, ponds, and swampy logged areas, which have resulted in the outbreak of waterborne diseases.
Magezi added that he condemns responsible leaders for their negligence in addressing their challenges and therefore called for an immediate response and an appropriate solution.
