Police in Rubanda have apprehended John Muhimba, a resident of Karukara cell, Karukara Ward, Hamurwa T/council, Rubanda district, on suspicion of murdering his wife, Niwamanya Shallon, aged 45.
Allegedly, the couple had a history of domestic violence, often escalating on Tuesdays during the Karukara market days, with reports indicating that Muhimba would frequently assault his wife during these times.
On the night of March 19, 2024, both Muhimba and Shallon were operating their Bar/Hotel business together. Around 22:00hrs, an argument ensued between them, leading Shallon to leave for bed. The following morning, on March 20, their children left for school assuming their mother was still sleeping, only to find their father armed with a metal object.
At approximately 11:00hrs, Muhimba summoned his neighbor, Arineitwe Deus, to his workplace. Upon arrival, Deus was led by Muhimba to the bedroom, where he discovered Shallon’s lifeless body with blood emanating from her mouth and ears. Muhimba remained silent when questioned about the incident, prompting Deus to alert other residents and the police.
The crime scene was meticulously examined, and witness statements were collected. Additionally, a postmortem examination was conducted, confirming the cause of death. An article of clothing stained with suspected human blood was seized from the suspect as evidence.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
