Rubanda District has disbursed a total of UGX 197 million to support local women and youth groups under the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP) and the Youth Livelihood Program (YLP).
Of the total funds, UGX 155 million was given to 24 women groups, while UGX 42 million went to seven youth groups across the district.
Speaking during the handover, Rubanda District Women’s Council Chairperson, Ms. Matilda Kyarikunda, urged beneficiaries to use the money responsibly and avoid misuse.
Ms. Kyarikunda expressed gratitude to the NRM Government, led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for initiating programs that empower women economically.
Rubanda District Secretary for Health and Education, Mr. Obed Mutatiina Kitabutuuka, called on the beneficiaries to maintain full support for the NRM and its flag bearers in the upcoming elections if they wish to continue benefiting from such programs.
District Community Development Officer, Mr. Gordon Kahwezi, explained that the funds are interest-free for the first year and attract only a 5% annual interest rate after three years.
The district leadership believes the funds will boost household incomes and create employment opportunities for women and youth in Rubanda.
