The Rubanda District Council on Thursday approved the budget estimates for the 2024/25 financial year, totaling 42,063,283,566 shillings (forty-two billion, sixty-three million, two hundred eighty-three thousand, five hundred sixty-six shillings).

The motion to present the budget was introduced by Vincent Turihabwe, the Secretary for Finance, Planning, Works, and Administration, on behalf of District Chairperson Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba. The council unanimously approved the budget.

Kasyaba highlighted that the budget reflects the district’s commitment to prioritizing essential programs aimed at transforming Rubanda District towards achieving middle-income status. The new budget represents a 2.2% increase, amounting to one billion shillings, from the previous year’s budget of 41,156,635,961 shillings (forty-one billion, one hundred fifty-six million, six hundred thirty-five thousand, nine hundred sixty-one shillings).

The funding sources for the next financial year are as follows: Local revenue of 691,311,000 shillings, a discretionary grant of 25,067,872,000 shillings, a conditional grant of 12,687,291,000 shillings, other government transfers amounting to 2,467,474,566 shillings, and external financing of 1,149,334,000 shillings.

The expenditure breakdown is as follows: Wage (recurrent) expenses of 23,948,583,000 shillings, non-wage (recurrent) expenses of 10,198,963,000 shillings, and development expenditure of 7,249,506,000 shillings.

Kasyaba stated that the priorities for the 2024/25 budget will include education, health, infrastructure development, and wealth creation programs. He attributed the budget increase to the efforts and support of Henry Musasizi, Minister of Finance (General Duties), who successfully lobbied for additional funding for the district.
