Reverend Father Oscar Ahimbisibwe Omusyasya, who serves as the Parish Priest of Kishariro Catholic Parish and also holds the position of President of the Lions Club in Ntungamo District, On Wednesday, November 1, 2023,encouraged the youth to take the lead in planting and nurturing fruit trees in their respective communities.
He delivered this message during an event organized by the Lions Club of Rukungiri District 411B at St. Paul’s Vocational Secondary School Katojo in Buyanja Town Council, Rukungiri District. The event included activities such as textbook donations, tree planting, and educating students about the significance of the Lions Club.
Father Oscar Ahimbisibwe Omusyasya advised the younger generation to redirect their focus from indoor games like pool tables and social media towards the meaningful endeavor of planting fruit trees. He emphasized that doing so would contribute to environmental conservation, food production, and income generation.
Conerius Byarugaba, the President of the Lions Club of Rukungiri, disclosed that they had made the decision to donate textbooks to enhance literacy, plant fruit trees for environmental aesthetics, shade, and fruit production, and also show appreciation to the headteacher, who is a Lions Club member. This act marked the celebration of the 4th anniversary of the Lions Club’s presence in Rukungiri District.
Paddy Tuheiseomujuni, the Head Teacher of St. Paul’s Vocational Secondary School Katojo (SPAVOC), welcomed the Lions Club’s involvement in the school and highlighted that, as a club member himself, he understood the value of their contributions. He expressed that the club’s presence would instill a spirit of altruism among the students.
Twesigye Edson, the Chairperson of the School Council, expressed gratitude for the trees that would enhance the school’s surroundings and provide fruits for the students. He praised the Lions Club for their generosity and pledged to care for and protect the newly planted trees.
