The police in Kanungu documented a case of suicide involving a 40-year-old man identified as Justus Besigensi, who was a retired teacher residing in Nyakijojwa village, Nyakijojwa parish, Kanungu district.
Allegedly, on October 13, 2023, around 10:00 AM, Agatha Tugumisirize, a nursing officer at Katete Health Centre Three and the deceased’s wife, left him at home and went to work. Upon her return, she tragically discovered him hanging from a rope.
According to reports, the deceased had been suffering from mental illness, which had led to his termination from a private school teaching position in 2022.
Agatha Tugumisirize promptly reported the incident to Katete police. Law enforcement officers visited the scene, documented the situation, and conducted a postmortem examination at Katete Health Centre III.
Following the procedure, the body was released to the family for a proper burial.
