Residents of Kaberebere cell in Nyakabare parish, Rukoni West Sub County, Ruhaama East County, Ntungamo district, are urging authorities to reconsider the demolition of their trading center. They claim that the demolition, which took place on December 30, 2022, was based on false information provided by some local leaders.

According to the residents, in September 2022, leaders informed them that the government intended to construct a Health Centre 2 facility in the area, prompting them to vacate the premises. However, to their dismay, the promised health facility was never built, and instead, all the buildings in Kaberebere, including various businesses, were demolished.

Gaston Mubangizi, a resident, expressed the hardships the community has faced since the demolition, emphasizing the inconvenience of having to travel long distances to Kitwe town for their daily needs. He urged authorities to intervene and address the situation.

Otim Mayers, the LC3 Councillor for Nyakabale parish, confirmed the demolition, attributing it to the planned establishment of a health facility. He explained that the failure to construct the Health Centre 2 was due to a decision to relocate it to Kyentaama parish in Rukoni West Sub County.

Efforts to contact the Rukoni West Sub County chairperson for further clarification were unsuccessful, as his phone number was unavailable at the time of reporting. The residents are now seeking assistance from higher authorities to rectify the situation and potentially re-establish the trading center in Kaberebere.
