Residents and leaders in Maziba Sub County, Kabale District, are expressing their discontent with the deteriorating condition of the Maziba-Omunkiro-Omukagana-Karweru road. According to them, the 19.5-kilometer road becomes impassable during rainy periods, causing numerous challenges for the community.
The road, serving as a crucial link between Maziba and Kyanamira Sub Counties, is an alternative route to the Old Kabale road, which connects to the Kabale-Mbarara highway. Notably, the poor state of the road, characterized by potholes and slippery conditions when it rains, is causing disruptions in transporting patients to health facilities and goods to market centers.
Leaders such as Flavia Nyinakiiza Kanagizi, the Kaharo and Maziba Sub Counties District Councilor, along with Novice Nahwera and Anita Kiconco, are leading the protest, accusing the Kabale district authorities of neglecting the issue. Captain Yunus Ntegeka, Contracts Engineer from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade, highlighted that heavy trucks carrying construction materials to Maziba Health Centre IV cannot use the road due to its poor condition.
In response, Kabale District Engineer Januario Bagamuhunda urged residents to exercise patience, assuring them that the district will address the road’s challenges this month. He mentioned that the necessary equipment, including a tractor, is already in Maziba Sub County for the road improvement project.
