Residents of Rushaaya A and B in Bwambara Parish, Bwambara Sub-County, Rukungiri District, on Wednesday, 13th August 2025, staged a peaceful demonstration over what they described as unnecessary delays in receiving compensation projects from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

The farmers were allocated 19 million shillings in the 2023/24 financial year to purchase goats as an alternative source of livelihood following wildlife-related losses. However, the distribution of the goats was delayed until this week.

Demonstrators, led by elderly women and community leaders, marched from Bwambara Trading Centre to the Sub-County headquarters, demanding immediate delivery of the goats. They expressed frustration that the process had now stretched into a second financial year without completion.

Some residents also used the protest to voice concerns over other pending projects, including another 19 million shillings meant for renovating the Rushaaya B road before the current political term ends.

Following mounting pressure, Bugangari Sub-County Chief Prosper Byarugaba disbursed 41 goats to beneficiaries on Wednesday, assuring residents that the remaining goats would be delivered by Friday, 15th August 2025.

The demonstration ended peacefully after the assurances were made, though residents vowed to keep pressing for the completion of all pending projects.
