Residents of Rwemirama Cell, Karangara Parish, in Greater Kayonza, came together on Tuesday for Buringi Bwansi (community work) to clear and improve local roads. The initiative, spearheaded by LC1 Chairperson Banyanga Philip and local leader Rwamafa Christopher, aims to address the poor road conditions that have hindered transportation and access to essential services.
The community focused on improving the access road stretching from Nyarutuntu through Rwemirama to Karangara. These roads are critical for transporting goods to markets and taking patients to hospitals.
Residents expressed frustration over the remoteness of their area and the difficulties in accessing healthcare. They shared how, in emergencies, they often have to carry patients on stretchers (engozi) due to the impassable roads. They appealed to the government to extend healthcare services and improve infrastructure in the region.
Silverino Ahimbisibwe, a resident, voiced the community’s long-standing struggles with poor roads and called on local leaders to prioritize their needs. The residents also expressed disappointment at the absence of some leaders during the community work.
So far, the residents have contributed 200 liters of fuel toward the road improvement project. However, they are seeking additional support from well-wishers to tackle more challenging sections of the road.
This collective effort underscores the community’s determination to improve their living conditions despite limited resources and support.
