Residents of Mishenyi Parish in Kayugwe Sub-County, Kanungu District, have constructed a temporary bridge to connect Kayugwe and Buyanja Sub-Counties across the Birara River. This bridge was built to address the transport issues caused by the previous bridge being washed away by heavy rains.

Local residents shared that the new bridge has significantly improved their lives. Previously, many individuals had tragically drowned in the Birara River while attempting to cross to Buyanja, and access to essential services was often delayed.

Gastone Batarigaya, LC2 Chairperson of Mishenyi, highlighted that transporting agricultural products to the market was extremely challenging without a proper bridge. He expressed his gratitude to their Woman MP, Patience Kishaba, for her support in the bridge rehabilitation, which has greatly improved transport in the parish.

Patience Kishaba Nkunda, the Woman Member of Parliament for Kanungu District, explained that her involvement in the bridge rehabilitation came after receiving a request for urgent assistance from the residents.

She emphasized the importance of community involvement in addressing local issues, as waiting for government action can often delay essential services. Kishaba praised her coordinators for keeping her informed about local challenges and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting community-driven initiatives.
