Transport along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road was disrupted Wednesday evening when a truck lost control and overturned in the middle of the road.
The truck, with registration number 3986AG19, was driven by Paluku Musanga Mandela and was transporting 30 tons of maize from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Ntungamo. The vehicle lost control and overturned at the Go Down – Kifunjo junction around 7:00 p.m.
Traffic police from Rukungiri Central Police Station reported that the truck was in poor mechanical condition and had been stranded in Kakabada Cell, Rukungiri Municipality, for over two weeks.
The driver, along with three Congolese passengers, including Kabagabe Dickson, sustained only minor injuries, and fortunately, there were no fatalities.
The scene is currently secured by police. Rukungiri District Traffic Officer ASP Mbowa Mukama Abel attributed the accident to overloading and the truck’s poor mechanical condition. He advised drivers on the Ntungamo route, particularly near the Ntungamo stage, to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such accidents.
