Residents of Muramba Parish, Rutenga Sub-county in Kanungu District are calling on their leaders and the District Works Committee to address the poor-quality construction of the Muramba-Rugyeyo road.

They argue that the road’s condition has deteriorated significantly since its recent upgrades, with numerous potholes and collapsing shoulders making it nearly impassable, especially during the rainy season.

The road lacks proper water channels and pipelines, which exacerbates the problem by allowing water to damage homes and gardens. Residents also complain that the road was supposed to be covered with murram, but the contractors used loam instead, leading to rapid deterioration.

Additionally, the cutting of water pipes during the roadwork has led to a severe water shortage in Muramba Trading Centre, Nyamirengyere, and Nyarushanje. Residents are now forced to travel up to 2 kilometers to find water, which has become a significant challenge.

In response, Councilor Mr. Buroosa Ainembabazi, representing Rutenga Sub-county, acknowledged the issues with the roadwork. He explained that the project was initially funded with 22 million shillings, but the funds proved insufficient. Consequently, only part of the road received murram, primarily on the hillsides.

Buroosa assured residents that the district and the Works Committee are aware of the problems and plan to address them. First-class murram, water channels, and pipelines will be installed between December this year and February next year. Regarding the water shortage, he requested patience from residents, stating that the issue will be resolved in August when new water sources in Rutenga are developed.
