Authorities in Ruhumuro Sub County, Bushenyi District, are addressing an unusual disease that has reportedly claimed one life and impacted over sixty families.

John Tumuheise, the Ruhumuro Sub County Chairperson, reported that the disease, which began two weeks ago, has affected several villages: Ekikoreijo One, Karama, Nyeibingo A, and two villages in Buhweju District—Katagata and Rusyamba.

Dr. Edward Mwesigye, the Bushenyi District Health Officer, advised the public to avoid panic, as the disease has not yet been scientifically identified. Dr. Mwesigye noted that the disease primarily affects the skin, including the hands, and emphasized that they are working with community structures to minimize damage.

Bushenyi District Resident Commissioner Robert Atuhairwe expressed concern about the situation, highlighting its potential impact on public health and suggesting that they may consider restricting movement in the affected areas if necessary.

In response, Buhweju District Deputy RDC Goodman Tumwebazi stated that the district is currently gathering information on the two affected villages before deploying a team of specialists to address the situation.
