Residents of Karangaro ward in the western division of Rukungiri municipality have voiced their grievances over the lack of access to clean water and electricity in their locality.
Expressing their discontent, they have criticized their leaders for their failure to address the persistent issue of inadequate water and electricity supply. Despite ongoing pleas and reminders to both the government and development partners, there has been no significant intervention to alleviate their plight.
The absence of clean water and electricity has had severe repercussions on the community, with children having to forego education to fetch water over long distances. Moreover, essential services such as milling and other electricity-dependent activities necessitate extensive travel, further exacerbating the community’s challenges.
In light of these pressing concerns, the residents are urgently calling for government intervention to rectify the situation.
Moreen Kyarisiima, the councilor representing Kalangalo ward, has provided reassurance to the residents, stating that efforts are underway to address the water and electricity shortages. She mentioned that recent surveys conducted by experts have paved the way for forthcoming projects aimed at extending electricity coverage in the area.
Additionally, Moreen advised residents to utilize the water tank installed at Kalangalo Health Centre II while awaiting a permanent solution to their water needs.
