Residents of Kagashe Ward and users of the Rukungiri-Omukagashe-Kashozi road have expressed concern over its deplorable condition, citing it as a major cause of accidents in the area.

Jacinta Bahikire, a resident of Kyarugamba Cell, described the road’s poor state, particularly from Omukagashe to Kashozi Church of Uganda. She recounted several accidents, including her own fall while traveling on a motorcycle. She also mentioned an elderly man who recently fell on the same road and a child who suffered a broken arm after being hit due to the road’s condition.

Bahikire highlighted the hazards posed by the road, which is riddled with deep potholes, waterlogged sections, and thorny vegetation, endangering travelers’ lives. She called on the authorities to take immediate action to address the situation and prevent further accidents.

Charles Mugizi, a boda boda rider, echoed similar concerns, stating that the road’s condition often forces them to visit garages for repairs due to damage caused by the potholes. He urged authorities to intervene and rehabilitate the road.

In response, David Tumwesigye, the LC3 Chairperson for Eastern Division, assured residents that road rehabilitation is ongoing in the division. He asked road users to remain patient, as the matter would be resolved soon. Tumwesigye highlighted some of the roads currently under repair, including Licence Road, Rwentondo-Kiziko Road, and Hillside School-Buhumuriro Road, among others.

He revealed that he had advocated for the rehabilitation of five roads and pledged to ensure that the Rukungiri-Omukagashe-Kashozi road is also prioritized. Tumwesigye attributed the poor road conditions to a lack of functional graders and tractors, noting that the equipment owned by the municipality is in disrepair. Authorities, he explained, now have to hire machinery from elsewhere to carry out roadworks.
