Residents in Rukungiri district, particularly those using the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road, have expressed serious concerns about the extensive potholes along the route, particularly in Buyanja town and at Kiborogota in Kebison.
They are urging the government to take immediate action to address these potholes, which they describe as turning the road into a death trap. The call for intervention comes in the wake of a tragic incident on 23.11.2023 when a collision between a highway coach bus and a motorcycle occurred in Buyanja town, resulting in the loss of Musinguzi Peter’s life, a resident of Nyakishenyi sub-county.
Herbert Mukyende, a transport broker in Buyanja town, attributes accidents along this road to the hazardous potholes. He implores government authorities to intervene urgently, expressing dissatisfaction with the current efforts to rectify the issue, citing the temporary solution of filling the potholes with soil.
Antony Nshoborokiirwe, the speaker for Buyanja Town council, emphasizes the concern of local leaders regarding the situation. He points out that these potholes are contributing to frequent accidents, and their temporary filling with soil is not seen as a lasting solution.
