Residents of Kyanika, Ndago Parish in Nyarushanje Sub County, Rukungiri district, are voicing their dissatisfaction with the deteriorating condition of roads and bridges in their locality.

The roads in dire need of attention include Kyabakuza – Junction road, Kyanju – Karama Ihunga road, as well as bridges like Omukashenyi and Ndago bridges, all situated in Nyarushanje Sub County.

They lament that the poor state of these roads has disrupted essential services in their area, such as transporting patients to hospitals in Kisiizi, and other necessary amenities. They express disappointment with their leaders who make promises during elections but fail to fulfill them.

Boda boda cyclists in the area report significant challenges in transporting people and goods to the market centers due to the deplorable road conditions.

Residents recall how Ndago Bridge collapsed some time ago, compelling them to construct a makeshift bridge using timber. Unfortunately, the timber was washed away by rain, leaving them in further distress.

They urge the authorities of Rukungiri district to intervene and repair these roads and bridges to enhance service delivery.

Musiime Michael, the Chairperson LC. 3 of Nyarushanje Sub County, acknowledges that while the district has renovated a portion of Ndago Road, there were limitations in the budget for the current fiscal year, 2023-2024, preventing the renovation of other roads.

Michael explains that the sub-county receives insufficient funds from the road fund to address all road repairs but assures residents that those not tended to this fiscal year will be considered in the next.

He also mentions that heavy rains have destroyed many bridges in their sub-county, but the district has committed to repairing some of them in the interim.

Michael expresses concern about the shortage of tractors for road renovation across the district and suggests that Rubabo Constituency should have its tractor to address road issues in all sub-counties.

He encourages residents to participate in community initiatives like Bulungi Bwansi to improve their roads while awaiting district assistance.
