Residents of Rukarango Parish in Kibatsi Subcounty, Ntungamo District, have raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of the Rwamabondo–Omukabare Road, a key route connecting local communities to marketplaces and other areas in the district.
According to Innocent Bareebwoha, a youth leader in Kibatsi Subcounty, heavy rains have damaged the road, leaving it full of potholes. He said the poor state of the road has made it difficult for residents to transport their goods to markets and called on the government to intervene.
Yowaabu Kamwesigye Kagwisagye, Chairperson of LC1 Rukarango 2, confirmed that the road is indeed in a deplorable state. While some community efforts have been made to maintain it, he noted that these measures are insufficient and urged local authorities to repair the road to facilitate easier transport.
Nicholas Akoora, a resident of Rwamabondo Town Council, highlighted the dangers posed by the road’s condition, noting that it complicates access to health services, particularly for pregnant women, and makes it difficult for business people to transport goods safely.
In response, Samuel Mucunguzi, Chairperson LC5 Ntungamo District, acknowledged that the road is part of the district’s planned infrastructure projects. He explained that while funding is currently limited, the issue has been presented to the Ministry of Finance, and work on the road is expected to commence soon.
The residents of Rukarango Parish continue to appeal for urgent intervention to restore the road and ensure safe and efficient transport for the local population.
