Local leaders and residents in Buhara Sub County, Kabale District, are protesting the poor condition of district roads in the area.

The Mwiisi-Bugarama-Kabanyonyi, Buhara-Ntarabana-Kitanga, and Kabanyonyi roads are particularly affected. Residents report that these roads have been in a deplorable state for the past two years without any rehabilitation.

Elia Tibyeitu, a resident of Rwene Parish, noted that some roads have become dangerous for motorists due to large potholes filled with water from recent heavy rainfall. He also highlighted that the condition of the roads is impacting the transportation of agricultural produce to market centers.

Joseph Baryamujura, the Buhara Sub County LC3 Chairperson, mentioned that in response to the poor road conditions, the Sub County leadership, with support from the Integrated Seed and Sector Development Uganda (ISSD Uganda) and its Common Ground Project, has begun opening community access roads to improve movement for people and goods.

The Kabale District LCV Chairperson, Nelson Nshangabasheija, acknowledged the issue and indicated that plans are underway to rehabilitate the roads. However, he also mentioned that the district is financially constrained and called for patience from the residents. Justine Onyinge, the Watershed Natural Resource Management Expert for the Common Ground Project, assured that they will assist local governments in the Kigezi region to enhance road access to markets.
