The Ministry of information, Communication, technology, and national guidance on Thursday launched a regional ICT Innovation Hub at Kabale University in Kabale District.
Officiating at the official launch, Assistant Commissioner at the Ministry of Information, Communication, technology, and national guidance, Silas Ngabirano who represented Minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi as the guest of honor asked students to take advantage of Hub and utilize the innovation skills they have to join modern technology.
Ngabirano made the call after discovering potential innovations while witnessing students’ innovation demonstrations where one of the students had developed Light control system and Computer Eye clicking system saying that with such innovations, Kabale University is strategically well positioned to be the leading Institution in such Innovations across the country.
Speaking during the same function, Chairperson University Council, Hon Adson Kakuru urged students to take advantage of the hub and do what it takes to develop themselves reminding them that they don’t have any excuse.
He also implored stakeholders to form a productive Social network aimed at making unsolicited proposals to lobby for more projects aimed at making the University grow and develop.
The University Vice Chancellor, Prof Joy Constance Kwesiga hailed the Ministry of Information, Communication, technology, and national guidance and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for allocating funds to start the innovation hub and Incubation center at the University.
However, Assoc Prof. Businge Phelix Mbabazi, the dean Faculty of Computing, Library, and Information Science said that they are currently facing challenges in terms of running the hub, operation manuals and costs, and limited Computers. He asked for more equipment to support the hub.
The Rubanda district LC5 Chairman, Steven Ampeire Kasyaba called for the extension of the Faculty of Tourism and Forestry in Rubanda District.
Kabale University has become the 3rd University in the country to have Regional ICT Innovation Hub. The University has Joined Soroti University and Muni University as the only luckiest public universities to have Regional ICT Innovation hubs.
