Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Turyabagyenyi Emmanuel Kateera has introduced a new security initiative to curb rising theft and robberies in Lwengo District. The program, officially launched in Kyazanga sub-county, involves forming village vigilante groups comprising ten members in each village to bolster the Uganda Police Force’s efforts.
During the launch event, RDC Turyabagyenyi explained that intelligence reports revealed criminal gangs frequently ambush boda boda operators, stealing their motorcycles and other belongings. Theft of livestock and household items is also prevalent, making it essential for community members to collaborate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
Turyabagyenyi also addressed concerns regarding poor road infrastructure in Kiseka sub-county, which has posed challenges for the local community. He assured residents that he would work with the district chairperson and the chief administrative officer to expedite the deployment of road maintenance equipment to the area.
“If there is any delay or issue with equipment provision at the district level, I will escalate the matter to higher authorities or consult the Minister of Works to ensure action is taken,” Turyabagyenyi said, noting that Kiseka sub-county has funds available for road improvements.
This initiative highlights the RDC’s commitment to addressing security and infrastructural needs within Lwengo District.
