The new Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Lwengo, Turyabagyenyi Emmanuel Kateera, has urged residents to fully support the NRM government led by President Yoweri Museveni, citing the improved infrastructure under the party’s leadership.

Speaking at a handover ceremony, Kateera expressed disappointment over the district’s low support for Museveni in the last general election, where the president garnered only 43% of the vote. He warned that such results would not be acceptable in the future and suggested those opposing the president should reconsider their presence in the district.

The event marked the official transfer of power from outgoing RDC Hajji Ramathan Walugembe, now assigned to Maracha District, to Kateera. During his remarks, Kateera stressed that elections must be both free and “good,” calling for higher voter turnout in favor of Museveni.

He also pledged to address political divisions within Lwengo, particularly regarding concerns that the district is a recruitment ground for Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels. With over 75% of local councilors and 90% of MPs from NRM, Kateera promised to engage stakeholders in finding solutions to the region’s political challenges.

Walugembe, who was praised for his service, called on district stakeholders to support Kateera’s leadership, emphasizing his preference for teamwork in delivering quality services. The ceremony in Mbirizi Town Council was attended by key officials, including Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Lwengo, Mr. Nyende Alex, Col. Sam Karogo Murali from Operation Wealth Creation Ankole sub-region, and Assistant RDC Mbarara, Ms. Grace Namara.
