Kabale University’s outgoing Chancellor, Prof. Mondo Kagonyera, has called on the institution’s management to prioritize soft skills training and continued infrastructural development to enhance the learning environment.
Prof. Kagonyera made the remarks on Friday during his farewell ceremony held at White Horse Inn, where he reflected on his leadership journey, emphasizing the importance of servant leadership, legal compliance, and listening to diverse perspectives.
Appointed in 2016 by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Prof. Kagonyera took up the chancellorship a year after Kabale University transitioned into a public institution. His tenure, renewed in 2021, officially concluded on April 28, 2025.
During the emotional send-off, he was honored with an Award of Honour and a large painted portrait created by a lecturer from the Department of Fine Art, in recognition of his exemplary service.
“I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support I received from the university administration. Our achievements were a result of collective effort and mutual respect,” Prof. Kagonyera remarked.
University Vice Chancellor Prof. Joy Kwesiga hailed his tenure as one of accessibility, transparency, and collaboration. Both staff and student leaders praised his role in presiding over successful graduation ceremonies and offering steady leadership during institutional challenges.
Meanwhile, the University Council and Senate have submitted their recommendations for the next Chancellor, pending presidential approval and formal announcement.
Prof. Kagonyera leaves behind a legacy of inclusive leadership and academic progress, marking a new chapter in Kabale University’s growth as a public institution.
