RUKIGA-The Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs  Hon. Nyirabashitsi Sarah Mateke yesterday delivered condolence messages from the office of the president to families that lost their dear ones due to heavy rains within Rukiga district.

During the heavy rains that hit Rukiga district recently, 3 lives were lost within the Sub counties of Rwamucucu, and Kashabya after mudslides swept off their houses.

Speaking to the affected families at Summit Resort Hotel in Muhanga Town council in Rukiga district, Hon Sarah Mateke, who doubles as the Women MP for Kisoro District said that the president got concerned after receiving a report about those who lost their dear ones.

The Minister who delivered Ugx 5 million for each life lost to the families added that the office of the president is also looking ahead to supporting families that lost properties and other infrastructure like Roads, Bridges that were swept off by heavy rains.

The Deputy RDC Rukiga district Mr. Kamusiime Zadoch together with the District Chairperson Hon Robert Kakwerere both appreciated the president’s Condolence stressing that the shocking incidents were beyond the district’s limit.

They called for further intervention towards helping the now homeless citizens who lost their properties like Houses, Lands, and Gardens among others, and other infrastructures like Roads, Bridges, Schools, and others.

Speaking to our reporter, Twasiima Jackline 54, and her Husband Geoffrey Kyaro residents of Katambira village Rutengye Parish in Kashambya Sub-county who lost their daughter Akansasira Jusper said that they were called on 2nd May 2023 that she had died in a house that fell on her.

They further said that their daughter left them with three Children they are now looking after from which they appreciated the President for extending a helping hand towards them for the loss.
