KISORO_An angry mob in Matarama village, Gisozi parish, Muramba sub-county, Kisoro district, lynched a 20-year-old thief suspected of stealing a sheep, resulting in his death.
The police report identifies the deceased as Hafasha Stephen, a resident of Matarama village, Gisozi parish, Muramba sub-county, Kisoro district.
According to the police report filed at Muramba Police Post, under reference number SD REF 09/01/06/2023, the case of murder was reported by John Bavakure (50), a resident of Matarama village, Gisozi parish, Muramba sub-county, Kisoro district.
The report further states that at approximately 6:00 PM on Thursday, the deceased was spotted in Makurizo village, Bunagana Town Council, in possession of a suspected stolen sheep.
The angry mob after suspecting him of theft, resorted to violent measures and beat him to death. They then transported the body to his father’s residence in Mutarama village, Gisozi Parish, Muramba sub-county, leaving it in their compound before fleeing the scene.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and reported that the crime scene was visited, documented, and the body retrieved.
It was subsequently taken to the Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. The police are actively investigating the lynching to bring the perpetrators to justice.
