Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming North Kigezi Diocese Youth and Students Convention, anticipated to draw over 3,000 young people from parishes across the North Kigezi Diocese in Rukungiri District.
The event, set to take place from September 4th to 7th, 2024, at the North Kigezi Diocese headquarters in Kinyasano, Rukungiri Municipality, was announced by Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe during a press briefing at his residence on Kinyasano Hill in the Western Division of Rukungiri Municipality. Bishop Asiimwe emphasized the significance of the convention, noting that it will feature a series of spiritually and morally uplifting sermons delivered by preachers from both Uganda and abroad.
Expressing concern over the negative influences affecting today’s youth, Bishop Asiimwe urged parents to allow and support their children to attend the convention, which he believes will be a transformative experience. He highlighted the need for parents to contribute financially, as each participant will be required to pay UGX 25,000 to cover the three-day event’s expenses.
Rev. Andrew Kananura, the Diocesan Youth Coordinator, who is overseeing the convention’s preparations, expressed confidence in the event’s success. He commended Bishop Asiimwe for his vision of organizing such a significant gathering aimed at guiding the youth onto a positive path and securing their future. Rev. Kananura called on young people to attend the convention in large numbers.
The convention will run under the theme “Arise and Shine,” inspired by Isaiah 60:1.
