Political tension is escalating in Kajara County, Ntungamo District, following the destruction of campaign posters belonging to the PFF flag bearer, Hon. Venansius Ahabwe.
Hon. Venansius has expressed strong dissatisfaction over what he describes as a targeted and illegal act by unknown individuals who have been tearing down his posters from towns and villages across the constituency. He noted that candidates invest heavily in the printing and distribution of campaign materials, adding that tampering with posters is a violation of Electoral Commission guidelines and the laws of Uganda.
Hon. Venansius further described the acts as driven by envy and a lack of political maturity, saying that destroying an opponent’s posters is not a legitimate campaign strategy. He revealed that several cases have been reported to the police but expressed concern over the slow pace of investigations.
The LC1 Chairperson of Rwashamaire East Ward in Rwashamaire Town Council, Victor Muchunguzi, confirmed the trend, saying that most of the posters being targeted belong to opposition candidates, especially the large-sized ones displayed in both villages and town centers. He emphasized that such actions are unlawful and undermine peaceful political competition.
Meanwhile, the PFF Coordinator in Kajara County, Edwine Mugabe, said nearly all posters placed in town areas have been torn down, while those of rival candidates remain intact. He described the acts as deliberate and intended to disrupt their campaign activities.
Leaders have called upon residents to remain vigilant and to respect the display of campaign materials regardless of political affiliation, as the area heads toward an intense political season.
