Police in Mbarara have recovered the body of a nursing officer from Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital who went missing from her marital home on September 2, 2024.

The deceased, identified as Judith Kyarisiima, had been married to Justus Nkwasiibwe, the headteacher of Bugashe One Primary School in Nyakayojo, Mbarara City South Division. Her body was discovered in River Rwizi and transferred to the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

According to Harrison Kagule, the Public Relations Officer of Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, no complaints of gender-based violence had ever been reported by the family to the hospital.

Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson, Samson Kasasira, confirmed the incident, stating that the body of Judith Kyarisiima, aged 50, was found around 9:00 a.m. along the shores of River Rwizi in Lugazi, Mbarara City South Division. The police are investigating whether the cause of death was murder or suicide, using evidence collected from the scene and interviews with those who had contact with her before her death.

Four people, including the deceased’s husband, are currently under investigation as key suspects in her disappearance and death. Kasasira assured the public that efforts are underway to ensure justice prevails.
