Police in Kabale District have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of an unidentified female adult whose body was discovered floating in River Rwabakazi at Kabatogote Cell, Kyanamira Parish, Kyanamira Sub-county.
According to reports, the body was spotted on the evening of Friday, May 30, 2025, at around 5:30 PM. The discovery was reported to Kyanamira Police Station by a concerned resident, only identified as Bonanza.
Police spokesperson for Kigezi Region, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that a team of detectives from the Kabale homicide department, led by D/IP Barijunaki Samuel, visited the scene. The area was cordoned off, examined, and documented for evidence collection.
A case of suspected murder has since been opened, and relevant witness statements have been recorded to aid ongoing investigations. The body was transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Authorities are now calling on the public to assist in identifying the deceased. “Anyone missing a loved one should visit the hospital mortuary to help with identification and give the deceased a dignified burial,” ASP Maate urged. He also appealed to anyone with information related to the woman’s death to come forward and assist the police in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Investigations are ongoing.
