The territorial police in Kanungu are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Edson Kayakole, 40, a resident of Katete in Kanungu District. He was allegedly hit by a speeding vehicle, a Hillux double cabin with registration number UBJ100J, belonging to Kedifise Bank, Kanungu branch.
The incident occurred on September 15, 2024, at around 7:30 p.m. in Kabashaki Cell, along the Kanungu-Kihihi road in Kirima Sub-county.
It is reported that Kayakole had left his home in Katete Sub-county earlier that day to visit a friend, Sabiti, in Mitoma District. At around 6:00 p.m., he left Sabiti’s place and his whereabouts became unknown. At approximately 7:30 p.m., while allegedly intoxicated and standing in the middle of the road, he was struck by a speeding vehicle and sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to Katete Health Center IV, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police were notified of the incident on September 16, 2024, by Mukwatangabo Habib Twaha, an employee of Kedifise Bank. The scene was visited and documented by authorities, and the vehicle was impounded for further investigation. The driver fled the scene and is currently being sought by the police. A postmortem was conducted, and the body was handed over to the family for burial.
