Police in Rubanda District are investigating a tragic suicide case involving a 37-year-old man, identified as Barnabas Mugabe, a resident of Karukara Cell, Karukara Ward, Hamurwa Town Council. The incident occurred on November 4, 2025, at around 9:30 a.m., when Mugabe was found hanging with a rope in the corridor of his bedroom.

According to preliminary police investigations, Mugabe and his wife, Ahimbisibwe Lelia, had been experiencing long-standing domestic conflicts. On the evening of November 4, Mugabe reportedly returned home around 8:00 p.m. and found his wife preparing supper. He allegedly removed the food from the fire before it was ready, sparking a violent altercation during which he also attempted to take away their one-month-old baby.

The mother of the deceased tried to intervene but was reportedly threatened by Mugabe. His wife managed to flee and reported the matter to Hamurwa Police Station, where she filed a domestic violence complaint before seeking medical attention at Kakore Health Centre II.

The following morning, Mugabe’s mother saw him sitting outside with the crying baby. She went to Karukara Trading Centre to seek help in rescuing the infant, but on her return, she found that Mugabe had taken his own life.

Police visited the scene, examined and documented the evidence, and later handed over the body to relatives for burial.
