Police in Mitooma District are hunting for a witch doctor on allegations of murdering a 45-year-old man by poisoning.

The incident happened in Butagatsi village, Mushunga Parish, Mitooma Sub County, Mitooma District.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Emmanuel Nshimeyimana, 45, a Mufumbira by tribe, a peasant, and a resident of Nyamwegabira village, Rubumba Parish, Nkoko Sub County in Kakumuro District.

It’s alleged that on 03/07/2024, the deceased left his home in Kakumuro District together with his wife, Routh Muhairwe, riding on a boda boda with registration number UFV 524 Q.

The two, together with Patrick Mukiisa, came to Mitooma to seek help from traditional healers to track people who had broken into their shop.

Tumusiime said they ended up at the home of Kabyogamu, a known conman, who administered a drink that intoxicated the deceased after taking 500,000 from him. The deceased then died in a second house also belonging to the witch doctor.

Venensio Kansiiime, 56, Chairman LCI of Ruti 1 village, Ward I Kashenshero Town Council, said the body was picked from the house by accomplices of Kabyogamu, loaded onto a motor vehicle with registration number UAK 393 T, and dumped in Kashenshero Sub County.

Tumusiime said the body was recovered from Ruti, where it had been dumped, and delivered to Kitagata Hospital in Sheema District for a post-mortem.
