The territorial police in Rubanda District have launched a manhunt for individuals accused of stoning and damaging a government vehicle belonging to the Minister of State for Finance and National Planning, Hon. Henry Musasizi.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 3, 2025, at approximately 6:40 PM at Hakashanje Playground, Nyakahanga Cell, Bushura Parish in Hamuhambo Town Council. Minister Musasizi had just concluded a campaign event when a group of suspected hooligans from the crowd hurled stones at his convoy, shattering the vehicle’s windows.

According to Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the confrontation reportedly escalated from earlier in the day when a group of unidentified individuals tore down the minister’s campaign posters at the same venue.

Police have since registered a case of malicious damage and initiated investigations. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend nine suspects believed to be involved in the violence, with the aim of bringing them to justice.

ASP Maate condemned the acts of lawlessness and urged the public to maintain peace during the ongoing political season. “Everyone has the right to express their civic choices freely. Those who engage in violence risk facing the full force of the law,” he warned.

The police continue to appeal to the public to support efforts to ensure peaceful and democratic engagements across the region.
