Territorial police in Kisoro District have launched investigations into circumstances surrounding alleged electoral violence that led to the arrest of Bufumbira North Member of Parliament Hon. Kamara John, his military bodyguard, and several of his supporters.
According to Police, the incident occurred on 25th November 2025 at around 2:00 pm. Earlier that morning, at about 9:00 am, Rtd CP Habyara, a contestant for the Bufumbira North parliamentary seat, reported a case at Nyarubuye Police Station, claiming that one of his supporters, identified as Eragena Emmanuel, had been assaulted by supporters of Hon. Kamara at Kageyo/Rugabano Trading Centre.
The Officer in Charge of Nyarubuye Police Station, CPL Obworot Samuel, together with PC Mandali Charles, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers reportedly found the victim tied up, bleeding, and confined inside one of Hon. Kamara’s vehicles.
Police further allege that when officers attempted to rescue the victim, they were assaulted, threatened at gunpoint, and disarmed. PC Mandali was subsequently arrested by the group and bundled into the same vehicle alongside the victim.
A reinforcement team from Kisoro Central Police Station (CPS) later intercepted the two vehicles involved and escorted them to the main station. Hon. Kamara, his military bodyguards, and several of his supporters were arrested and are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Maate Elly confirmed the incident and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway.
