Pilgrims from Rukungiri District have expressed heartfelt appreciation for the generous support received during their spiritual journey to Namugongo Martyrs Shrine for this year’s Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations scheduled for June 3rd, 2025.
Christ the King Catholic Parish Rukungiri flagged off 37 pilgrims on May 17th, all of whom have successfully arrived. North Kigezi Diocese also flagged off 60 pilgrims who are now stationed at Nabbingo. On May 19th, Nyakibale Catholic Parish sent off 40 pilgrims, who also arrived safely in Nabbingo and are expected to reach Namugongo on the afternoon of May 30th.
The pilgrims, speaking on May 29th, expressed their gratitude for the care and contributions they received along the way. Among the notable supporters is Hon. Mary Paula Kebirungi Turyahikayo, former Rubabo County MP and aspiring Rukungiri District Woman MP, who extended financial support worth UGX 200,000. She encouraged the pilgrims to pray for Uganda’s peace and stability, and also for her political journey ahead of the 2026 elections.
Musimenta Scora Gaetano, a pilgrim from Nyakibale Catholic Parish, acknowledged the comfort of their rest camp in Nabbingo and thanked all the well-wishers, particularly Hon. Turyahikayo, pledging continued support in the upcoming elections.
James Musimenta, leader of the pilgrims from Christ the King Parish, praised God for the safe journey and called on Christians to continue supporting pilgrimages as a means of strengthening faith and seeking healing.
From the North Kigezi Diocese, Jackson Ahimbisibwe commended Hon. Turyahikayo, Bishop Onesmus Asiimwe, and the head of laity for their unwavering support. He emphasized that their journey was dedicated to praying for peace and love in the country.
Marverous Tayebwa from Rwenyangi Church of Uganda was equally grateful for the safe journey, attributing their sustenance to the food and financial support from churches and well-wishers. She committed her prayers to seeking God’s power and deepening her faith.
