Leadership of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party in Rukungiri District has announced plans to petition the courts of law against the Electoral Commission and newly elected Members of Parliament, citing alleged irregularities in the recently concluded general elections.

The plan was revealed today, 20th January 2026, during a press conference held at the party offices along Rubabo Road in Rukungiri Municipality. Addressing the media were the District PFF Chairperson Aloysius Mugarura, former Rubabo County parliamentary candidate Hon. Naboth Namanya, and the District PFF Office Administrator Caleb Musimenta.

Speaking at the press conference, Aloysius Mugarura alleged that the party has evidence of election-related irregularities, including assault, voter bribery, and forgery of declaration forms. He cited an incident in Bugangari Sub-county at St. Paul’s Vocational Secondary School, Kazindiro, where he claims he was assaulted alongside other party supporters.

Mugarura called upon PFF supporters not to lose hope and encouraged them to turn up in large numbers for the remaining elections scheduled for 22nd January, 27th January, and 4th February. He emphasized that the party remains strong and capable of securing significant positions, reiterating the party’s commitment to supporting Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s continued struggle for democratic change.

The District PFF Office Administrator, Caleb Musimenta, expressed concern over what he described as widespread electoral misconduct. He confirmed that he has been instructed by the party leadership to compile a petition seeking justice from the courts and to promote public awareness of the laws governing elections in the country.

Former Rubabo County Member of Parliament candidate Hon. Naboth Namanya, who lost in the recent elections, declared his full support for the planned court action against the Electoral Commission and the newly elected Members of Parliament. He appealed for calm among party supporters as they await the court’s ruling.

Meanwhile, the Rukungiri District Returning Officer, Namara K. Abasi, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the elections, describing them as free and fair. She noted that, as of now, her office has not received any formal election petition.
