Sheik Isabirye Idi, the Upcountry Overseer of Schools for the Nile Cultural and Social Development Association, Urges Parents to Support Islamic Schools and Teachers

Sheik Isabirye Idi, the Upcountry Overseer of Schools for the Nile Cultural and Social Development Association (NCDA), has called on parents to take ownership of and support Islamic schools and teachers.

NCDA, based in Iganga District, is a group of investors specializing in education across the country and is the proprietor of Kuwaiti Primary School in Kebisoni Town Council, Rukungiri District.

Speaking on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, during the graduation ceremony of the Top Class at Kuwaiti Primary School, Sheik Isabirye emphasized the challenges Islamic schools face due to parents’ negative attitudes toward Islamic norms. He stressed the importance of parental support, noting that these schools provide the same curriculum as other schools, along with additional Islamic teachings of public significance. Sheik Isabirye also advocated for better support for teachers, who continue to serve diligently despite insufficient pay.

Sheik Kayole Abdul Malik Byaruhanga, the Rukungiri District Muslim Kadhi, commended NCDA for establishing a high-standard school in the district. He urged parents to prioritize their children’s education to ensure they grow into individuals with integrity and announced ongoing plans to establish an Islamic secondary school in the district.

Abdura Nzigira, the Chairperson of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council in Kanungu and the PTA Chairperson of Kuwaiti Primary School expressed concern over the limited number of Islamic schools in the region. He called on NCDA to fund more schools to strengthen Islamic faith and education in the area.

David Kwebangira, the District Councilor representing Kebisoni Town Council, appreciated NCDA for establishing a well-disciplined and academically strong school in the heart of Kebisoni Town Council. He urged the association to provide additional resources to enhance the school’s reliability and effectiveness.

Kiranda Muslim, the Head Teacher of Kuwaiti Primary School, acknowledged the contributions of non-Muslim parents who have enrolled their children in the school. He noted that the support of non-Muslims is crucial, as the Muslim community alone cannot sustain the school. Kiranda highlighted that their learners are competing successfully with top schools in Kampala and Wakiso Districts, achieving first and second grades, which aligns with their goal of delivering quality education.

During the ceremony, 56 graduates received promotion certificates, advancing to Primary One.
