The Kanungu District Education Officer, Shaban Adams, has called on parents to engage more closely with their children and take an active interest in their daily activities and education. He made these remarks yesterday during the annual general meeting of Nyakinoni Secondary School, which brought together parents, teachers, school administrators, and the founding body to discuss the school’s progress and challenges.

Adams emphasized that understanding a child’s strengths and weaknesses is essential for providing the support they need to succeed academically and personally.

While addressing the gathering, Kinkiizi Diocese Education Coordinator, Rev. Canon Stella Arinaitwe, urged students to remain focused on their future. She also encouraged parents to plan their budgets wisely by choosing affordable schools, highlighting that responsible financial planning at home sets a strong example for children. Arinaitwe praised Nyakinoni parents for being role models and reiterated that charity begins at home.

The school’s headteacher, Dan Byabashaija, thanked both the founding body and the Government of Uganda for their continued support in developing the school. He noted that Nyakinoni Secondary School has grown to become an academic leader in Kanungu, which has contributed to increased student enrollment, and he praised the students for maintaining good discipline.

During the meeting, a new Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) committee was elected, with Rev. Festo Tampavu as chairperson, Sarah Mbabazi as vice chairperson, Elisah Turinawe as treasurer, and Rwamathan Mugabo and Fosca Ninsima as committee members.
